Help and About onestopblogs

About

Onestopblogs is the new Blog Aggregation service from www.onestopenglish.com. On onestopblogs you will find all the news and views from the English language teaching community brought together in one place.

How does it work?

Onestopblogs collects data from hundreds of English language blogs and then does useful and interesting things with that data.

You can find out what teachers are talking about in the Top Stories section or the latest posts from our bloggers in the Latest Posts section. Or go straight to Blogs to find all the English language blogs we list on this site. What’s more, you can find out what people are saying about your favourite books in the Publications section.

Find out more

If you are a blogger or know of a great blog that should be listed here, submit it today by emailing the onestopenglish team or find out how to set up your own blog. And if you want to know what’s hot on the site, check out the Top Blogs, Top Publishers and Top Tags in the Site Stats section.

Statistics and rankings

Blogs

All blog statistics are calculated over a 90-day window.

Blogs are ranked on the number of incoming links from other English language blogs. Word counts, percentage complexity, Flesch, Kincaid and Fog readability statistics are calculated by looking at the posts from each feed in the onestopblogs database.

Statistics are calculated once a week. If you’ve had some really popular posts over the past couple of days then don’t despair if your ranking doesn’t change immediately.

Email the onestopenglish team when you update your blog and we’ll update the index.

Setting up your own blog

The best way to become part of the onestopblogs community it to set up your own blog! This is very easy to do. There are lots of blog platforms you could use, but three that offer the platform, domain name and hosting for free are:

Making your blog onestopblogs friendly

The basics

Is your blog registered with onestopblogs? Go to the search page, select ‘Blogs’ and type in part of the name of your blog. If it doesn’t appear when you press ‘Search’ then your blog probably isn’t on the list of blogs that onestopblogs indexes.

Onestopblogs only indexes blogs related to English language teaching, training and linguistics (or content that would be of interest to somebody working in English language teaching). To suggest your blog to be added to onestopblogs, email the onestopenglish team.

RSS Feeds

Onestopblogs collects data from your blog using its RSS feed. If it’s not in the feed, onestopblogs can’t see it. Ideally your feed will contain full-length posts (not just excerpts), including any links in those posts.

Tagging your blog

Onestopblogs organizes blog posts into different types. It can’t do this automatically - it needs a little prompting from you, the blogger. This is where tagging (categorizing) comes in.

Tags are key words that you attach to your blog post. Adding tags to your blog posts helps onestopblogs do its job and organize your blog to ensure that your blog posts are found and read by our users. Tagging will also help your visitors find posts within your blog and not just outside it (in onestopblogs).

Most blogging platforms allow for tags, so visit the Help pages of your blogging platform if you want to find out how to tag your blog posts effectively.
